Day Two Recap

Day One of the NFL Draft is over. The first round came and went. Defense and Offensive Lineman seemed to be the main go to for the first day of the NFL Draft.

Only three quarterbacks, two receivers, one running back and two tight ends were taken in the first 32 picks.  Rounds two and three are where teams are truly built. With so many talented offensive players going in rounds two and three, the real question is how does their landing spot impact there fantasy impact and status for the upcoming fantasy football season.

Deebo Samuel- SF, WR

The 49ers stayed put at pick 36 and took Deebo Samuel. Samuel has very good ability after the catch and profiles as a very good slot receiver. With Marquise Goodwin, Trent Taylor, Kendrick Bourne and Dante Pettis, the receiving corps for the 49ers are very crowded. Expect Samuel to have a role, but he has little redraft value at this point. Keep an eye on him in the 2nd for Dynasty Rookie Drafts.

Drew Lock- DEN, QB

The Denver Broncos took what they hope to be their future starter at pick 42. Drew Lock out of the University of Missouri will most likely sit for a year or two behind Joe Flacco. If Denver can continue to add weapons to their young corp, Lock could be a very sneaky dynasty pick and stash for the future.

Irv Smith Jr.- MIN, TE

The Minnesota Vikings selected Irv Smith Jr from the University of Alabama. Simultaneously, all Kyle Rudolph owners shed a single tear. Smith will have a role on the offense but tight ends take time to significantly contribute to NFL teams let alone fantasy teams. There is not a lot of redraft value here, but he could have a lot of value in TE Premium leagues. He has all the makings to be a future stud, the statistical output in round one most likely will not reflect that.

A.J. Brown- TEN, WR

The Tennessee Titans took an all-around good receiver from Ole Miss. No, not DK Metcalf. They took A.J Brown. Brown was profiling as the most underrated receiver on day two until this pick. The Titans suddenly went from a group of underwhelming receivers to a group with a  much higher potential. In term of fantasy value, sadly, the Titans have not shown much prowess in the passing game and very few targets. This is a great move for the Titans to get better. For best fantasy value, this is not the greatest place prospective Brown owners would have wanted.

Miles Sanders- PHI, RB

With the 53rd pick, the Philadelphia Eagles took my number one ranked RB in Penn State’s Miles Sanders. The Eagles suddenly have the most crowded backfield in football which is not ideal for fantasy owners to start. The beauty of dynasty is you can keep them forever. Sanders is the future every down back of the Philadelphia Eagles. He is a first round pick in rookie drafts and due to his longtime value, he is worth a top-five pick.

Mecole Hardman- KC, WR

The Kansas City Chiefs will lose Tyreek Hill due to off-field issues again. The Chiefs relied on that type of game-breaking speed with Patrick Mahomes in his first year starting. The Chiefs traded up to pick 56 and took Mecole Hardman. Hardman ran a 4.33 40-yard dash this off-season. Being on this Chiefs team brings tremendously more value to Hardman than if he landed elsewhere, but we need to wait and see. However, Hardman’s Dynasty Rookie draft value is skyrocketing, just because of the potential of playing with Mahomes.

J.J. Arcega-Whiteside- PHI, WR

The 57th pick belonged to the Philadelphia Eagles. With that pick they drafted, the best red-zone receiver in my opinion of the draft;  Stanford WR J.J Arcega-Whiteside. Commonly known as JJAW, Arcega-Whiteside, could be an immediate contributor in Philadelphia's offense as a red-zone threat.

Parris Campbell- IND, WR

The Indianapolis Colts were next to take a Wide receiver and got their number two receiver by drafting Ohio State’s Parris Campbell. Campbell goes to the ideal spot and will be an   contributor. Campbell is a burner. Paired with T.Y Hilton, he can expect to have some good opportunities and one on one matchups.

Andy Isabella- AZ, WR

The Arizona Cardinals, in a predictable move, traded Josh Rosen to the Miami Dolphins for an exchange of draft picks. The main pick traded was the 62nd overall.  With that pick, they selected University of Massachusetts Andy Isabella. Some comparisons have him as a Brandin Cooks type of receiver, and it's interesting to see Arizona grabbing a receiver to pair with Christian Kirk and their newly acquired quarterback Kyler Murray. Isabella is a sneaky dynasty pick that could actually pay dividends similar to Cooper Kupp’s rookie season.

D.K Metcalf, SEA, WR

The Seattle Seahawks selected 64th overall, the last pick of the second round. They did not disappoint. With rumors of Doug Baldwin being more injured than we might know and the Seahawks looking to add dynamic players to their team. With the 64th pick, they selected D.K Metcalf. His fit on this team is perfect. Many people believe Metcalf as deserving of the 1.01 pick in rookie drafts. N’keal Harry is probably more of a lock with his selection by the Patriots in the first round but Metcalf is a good bet to go top three in rookie drafts. Combining his athleticism with Russell Wilson is a good bet for Seattle to create some dynamic plays.
