NFL Week 10 WR/CB Matchup Report

We only have a few more weeks until the fantasy football playoffs start, so every week is crucial from here on out.  As I’ve done with every article this season, I’m going to focus on five wide receivers, ranked in my top 24, that I feel have good matchups. I’m also going to look at my top 24 WR rankings and select five players that I feel don’t have very good matchups. Finally, I’m going to select five WRs outside of my top 24 rankings that I feel have some upside this week. You can use these picks in your season-long leagues (as a guide, not as a start/sit), or even when selecting your DFS lineups.

The Good:

Mike Evans vs. Patrick Peterson:

I never thought I would be excited about a wide receiver going up against Patrick Peterson, but here we are.

Amari Cooper vs. Trae Waynes:

Cooper is dealing with a knee injury but is expected to be a go for Sunday night. As long as he plays I’m really liking the matchup against Waynes. So far this season Waynes has allowed almost 500 receiving yards, four touchdowns and a catch rate of 70 percent.

Kenny Golladay vs. Kyle Fuller:

It seems like each week Golladay and Marvin Jones go back and forth when it comes to fantasy production, and there is no rhyme or reason to it. Still, I do think that Golladay takes full advantage of his matchup this week against the smaller Kyle Fuller. Fuller is allowing almost nine yards per target and a catch rate of 73 percent.

D.J. Moore vs. Kevin King:

Moore has been seeing almost nine targets a game and is on pace for over 1,000 receiving yards this season. This week he faces off against Kevin King, who has allowed over 500 receiving yards, and 11 yards per target this season.

Michael Gallup vs. Xavier Rhodes:

This is another Cowboys/Vikings matchup that I really like. Xavier Rhodes just hasn’t been the same player this season. While he isn’t giving up a ton of yards, he is allowing a catch rate of 84 percent and a quarterback rating of 121.5. I’m giving the advantage to Gallup in this one.

The Bad:

Tyler Lockett vs. K’Waun Williams:

It’s always tough to put top 24 wide receivers in this section, but these are simply matchup I just don’t love. K’Waun Williams has been very stingy this season, allowing just 5.47 yards per target, and a quarterback rating of only 66.5.

Davante Adams vs. Donte Jackson:

Adams is just one week off of coming back from his turf toe injury and still was targeted 11 times. His toe seems to be ok, and as much as I love Adams I do think he will find some tough sledding against the Panthers if Donte Jackson is covering him. Jackson has given up less than 200 receiving yards all season long and a catch rate of only 59 percent.

Allen Robinson vs. Darius Slay:

Allen Robinson is one of the better route runners in the league, in my opinion. He’s on a team that doesn’t have a great quarterback, but he is still making the most of what he has to work with. Well, it could be a bit tough against Darius Slay this week. This season, Slay is allowing a catch rate of only 58 percent and has only given up a single touchdown.

Odell Beckham vs. Tre’Davious White:

Baker Mayfield came out this week and said that he wants to force-feed OBJ early against the Bills. Odell is an all-world talent, but going up against Tre’Davious White will be challenging. White hasn’t allowed a touchdown all season long and opposing quarterbacks have a rating of just 49.8 against him this season.

John Brown vs. Denzel Ward:

This will be a fun matchup to watch. Brown’s 4.34 speed against Ward’s 4.32 speed. Brown wins matchups with his quickness and burst, but against the equally speedy Ward, who has allowed a catch rate of only 48 percent, Brown could have a tough day.

The Upside:

Larry Fitzgerald vs. Vernon Hargreaves:

I know, I know. Fitzgerald tends to disappear after the first half of the season. Well, while that may be true I’m still holding out hope that he can find success against Tampa Bay. Specifically, against Hargeaves who is allowing almost 11 yards per target, almost 600 receiving yards and a catch rate of 74 percent.

Chester Rogers vs. Chris Lammons:

Both T.Y. Hilton and Parris Campbell are out this week, which makes Rogers the Colts’ WR2. It doesn’t matter who is behind center for the Colts because Rogers’ aDOT this season is only 7.2. Chris Lammons will be covering Rogers, and so far this year he has allowed 12 yards per target, a catch rate of 75 percent and a QB rating of 133.9.

Ted Ginn vs. Blidi Wreh-Wilson:

GInn has only seen seven targets over the last two games, but he is still head and shoulders above the other Saints wide receivers in targets. This week, Ginn should see a lot of Wreh-Wilson, who has allowed a catch rate of 78 percent and a QB rating of 150.5.

Taylor Gabriel vs. Rashaan Melvin:

While I’m not a big fan of Allen Robinson’s matchup, I do like Gabriel’s. Rashaan Melvin has allowed 10 yards per target, almost 500 receiving yards and three touchdowns this year.

Demaryius Thomas vs. DeAndre Baker:

Thomas is seeing just over six targets per game this season, and this week he gets rookie DeAndre Baker. Baker has been one of the worst cornerbacks in the league this year and for good reason. He has allowed 12 yards per target, almost 600 receiving yards, and six touchdowns.
