Dynasty Sell Now

In Dynasty leagues players have to know when to sell a player and when to hold a player.

It's what makes dynasty so much fun; it's almost as if you are contributing to the stock market. You want to sell high and buy low, it the name of the game. You are trying to always position yourself to be better than you were last season and always try to get younger.

There are three players that I think are sell's in dynasty for 2019 and want to provide you, the fantasy football owner, with some thoughts and stats as to why you should sell them at peak value, right now. Remember, the goal is to get better and younger while maintaining the sweet spot where you can leave your team alone for a year or two and make just minor adjustments. Let's dive into those players that I say sell high.

Adam Thielen

Age: 28

Years In The NFL: 5

ADP: 3.03

Now before everyone starts going all crazy and blows up in a rage, let us remember that while 28 is young, that's still getting up there in age in terms of being old in the NFL. We all know 28 is very, very young, but in the NFL there is a wall, and every player eventually hits this wall. I take the approach of selling before they hit that wall and try to get something in return for my investment.

Thielen started the 2018 season off hot right out of the gate having double-digit targets from Week One through Week Seven. Not only did Thielen have double-digit targets but he also tacked on over 100 receiving yards and scored five touchdowns out of those seven games.

After week seven is where things get interesting. From Week Eight through Week Sixteen, Thielen only had two games where he had over 100 yards receiving and only had double-digit targets in two of those games while scoring only four touchdowns in that span.

The production fell off for Thielen and never seemed to pick up like it did when the season first started. It's mostly because of Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Kirk Cousins. Cousins seemed to hone in on Stefon Diggs.  After owning Thielen the last couple of years, I am advising you to sell him high and try to trade for a player like Nick Chubb.

Zach Ertz

Age: 28

Years In The NFL: 6

ADP:  3.06

Zach Ertz is another sell candidate for me. The issue with Ertz is similar to that of Thielen. Seven of the sixteen games Ertz played in 2018, he only had single-digit targets. Adding only five games of 100 yards receiving is tough but not something I penalize him for because after all, Ertz is a tight end and not a wide receiver.

Catching eight touchdowns all year which is equal to what the dominate tight-end caught last year is not an alarm but more of a question mark for fantasy owners. Rookie tight end Dallas Goedert caught four touchdowns and had 334 receiving yards in eight games that he started. Those stats are alarming plus the fact that Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has not finished a whole season since his rookie year.

Ertz will be turning 29 during the 2019 season,  so he is now a sell for me. With the emergence of Goedert combined with the age, Ertz may have already hit his ceiling. Time is now to sell. Player I recommend targeting if you decide to trade Ertz is Kenny Golladay.

Le'veon Bell

Age:  27

Years In The NFL: 5

ADP:  1.10

I love Le’Veon Bell. He has been a very consistent fantasy RB but since  Bell is now with a new team, electing to sign with the New York Jets this past offseason, the time to sell is now.

It's not Bell that I do not trust but instead quarterback Sam Darnold. Many defenses are not going to respect the passing game and load up the box when Bell runs. Now, this could all change if Darnold explodes and becomes the QB that everyone hopes he will, but until that happens, we can only go on what we have currently.

Bell elected to sit out an entire NFL season because of a contract dispute with his former team the Pittsburgh Steelers. That hold out raised a red flag, and many within leagues will be trying to trade low with you. You have to hold your ground and sell, sell, sell. Make others in your league understand that this is the most consistent RB in fantasy over the last couple of years.

Combined with a year out of football and a year older, if you haven't tried to sell Bell now than you may have to hold him for now or until you get an offer that you like. Get on the horn and make calls, the earlier, the better on trading Bell. Player to target would be trying to aim for a younger RB like Kerryon Johnson for example.
